Erik Pace Birkholz (CISSP) is an original Founder of Special Ops Security, Inc. (www.SpecialOpsSecurity.com) currently on assignment at Dell Computer in Austin, TX. Before starting Special Ops, Erik was a charter member of Foundstone, the pre-eminent leader in security consulting and training, until its acquisition by McAfee in October 2004. Since 1995, Birkholz has performed hundreds of vulnerability assessments, penetration tests, host security reviews, web application assessments and security infrastructure reviews for many of the largest corporations in the world. He is the author of the best-selling book, SPECIAL OPS: Host and Network Security for Microsoft, UNIX and Oracle, and a contributing author of five international best-selling books for Osborne/McGraw-Hill including SQL Server Security and Hacking Exposed: Network Security Secrets and Solutions. Erik is an award-winning speaker who has presented to audiences worldwide, including NATO, the Pentagon, the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the National Security Agency (NSA), and Microsoft. Finally, Mr. Birkholz is a Subject Matter Expert for the Information Assurance Technology Analysis Center (IATAC); a U.S. Department of Defense entity that belongs to the Defense Technical Information Center.
